Isaiah 66:13 – “As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; and you shall be comforted.”
It doesn’t take much effort for one to feel distress in today’s turbulent world. News from everywhere can be very disturbing: from pandemic, to wars, to economic turmoil. If one is attracted to this sort of food, it would certainly create a lot on anxiety and mental unrest.
So where do we believers find peace, rest and comfort to our ‘momentary’ troubles? Our God has all the answers that we need. This is what the Psalmist wrote: “I lift up my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2).
Our God provides the solution for our distress, our anxiety, our worries. “When anxiety overwhelms me, Your consolation delights my soul.” (Psalm 94:19). He provides all the comfort that we need to feel safe and secure regardless of the circumstances, regardless of what we see with our eyes, or hear with our ears.
Within the arms of our Almighty God, “as a mother comforts her child, so will our God comfort us.”
We need to focus on Our God, on who He Is, on what He has already done, and will still do. He Is the God of all comfort. He has the entire world in His hands. He has us hidden safe and secure within His hands. He is The One who drives our anxiety away and replaces it with His peace.
Let us say with confidence: “I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.” (Psalm 131:2). Amen.
