God, The Restorer of My Soul

Lamentations 3:24 – “The Lord is my portion, says my soul, therefore I hope in Him.”

In verse 17 of Lamentations 3, the prophet says that he has been deprived of peace. Unfortunately all of us have gone through some hardship; have been afflicted; have been mistreated; suffered emotional harm; and have similarly been deprived of peace.

Sometimes we spend too much time thinking about our afflictions, we get sad, but just as Jeremiah did, we must “call to mind”, remember, the greatest attributes of our God, which will then restore our hope and push away our sadness.

We must remember that it is because of the Lord’s great love that we are not consumed, for His mercies, His compassion, never fail; they are new every morning, because of His faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23).

Rather than focusing on our problems, we need to focus on our God.  And we must say to ourselves: “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him.” (verse 24).

Our God is all we need!  He is our portion, our defender, our shield, our protector, the strength of our heart.  He is our share, our inheritance, our very great reward!

Let us put all our hope in the Lord, Who never fails us. Let us remember that our God is faithful.

Let us learn to “quiet” our soul.

Let us “dare” to make our soul say (after it has been quieted and filled with the peace only our God can give): “The Lord is my portion, therefore I hope in Him.”
