2 Samuel 7:28

O Lord God, You are God, and Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your servant.

The acknowledgment of who God is and the credibility of His word play a pivotal role in the growth of one’s faith. In the mentioned verse, David prays, recognizing that God’s word is true. He recalls the good promises God made concerning his life. The context here involves the word that came to David about God’s covenant. God promised King David a lasting dynasty and the emergence of a future king, the Messiah, from his lineage. The king of Israel is delighted and prays for the fulfillment of the promise given to him.

Often there is a waiting period between the declaration of God’s spoken word and the appointed time of its fulfillment. During these delays, let us continue to thank God and prepare for the promise. These actions of preparation and a willingness to upskill one’s character are indications of faith.

Even though David couldn’t see anything at work, he had unwavering faith that God would accomplish what was promised. In our everyday lives, are we waiting for God’s promise to come to fruition? Is it hard to wait on the Lord when there are delays in the unfolding of our blessings in the visible realm? Let us choose to meditate on God’s word and speak life over His promises until they come to pass in our lives.
