Psalm 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
Do you remember the last time you went on a trek? The way was hard, the unexpected obstacles along the way made it harder, but you returned with a refreshed mind and a strengthened body, didn’t you?
Now think of a time when you were on a crowded railway platform. The path was wide, the unforeseen obstacles were few, and in all truth you didn’t have to do much to move, because the crowd carried you along. But the experience left you tired and weary, didn’t it?
The Bible says, “But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” – Matthew 7:14
In life, it is easy to follow the crowd and move with the masses. It even feels right because it is hard to imagine so many people thronging in the wrong direction.
Moreover, it’s hard to stop and turn back because even when we want to give up our old life and start afresh, our crowd or circle of friends carries us along. And that, to the world, is meek.
But, when the Bible talks about being meek, it isn’t referring to someone who is driven by a crowd. It is talking about a person who is submissive to God’s plans.
The path that God has chosen for us, maybe hard. At times we may feel like the path has come to an end and there is no way ahead.
But, remember that the God who sprung streams in the desert, will make a way where there is no way!
This conviction – the Lord Jesus is always in control – will fill us with abundant peace.
Would you rather be pushed along and trampled by a crowd, or lead to Great Triumph by your Heavenly Father?
