Hills and Valleys

I will lift up my eyes to the hills from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2

Psalm 121 was written on the way to the holy land, Jerusalem, centuries ago, but it resonates with our life pilgrimage even today. Accept it or not, we are all on a journey to the beyond. Despite that, on earth, we seem preoccupied and busy with life. Every day is a rat race out there in a dog-eat-dog world.

Isn’t there a better way to live?
What lay before him is an unsafe journey uphill, yet the psalmist is sure that the Creator of heaven and earth is in control of his life. Likewise, to keep up with our calling, it’s best to set our eyes on divine pursuits. Our spiritual journey has to advance from a lowly state to a higher level. Looking around for help is hopeless. Instead, when you look up, God grants you with wisdom and vision to understand and see things like He wants us to. God, our Creator, knows what everyone is here for. He will direct us to live our lives abundantly(John 10:10).

Faced with life’s uncertainties, are you tempted to quit, looking around at the valleys? Or do you look up to God to seek what He has in store for you? The hurdles you face today could be self-made or unexpected, but a child of God has no need for fear. The all-powerful and all-knowing God is by your side; He is more than willing to raise you. Our Holy God is beyond all human concepts or ability to grasp, yet intimate beyond all human limitations.

So, when we traverse through the hills and valleys, let our understanding be in our Lord, our Creator, with the ever-present help of the Holy Spirit. Our promise-keeping God will come to our rescue throughout our life pilgrimage. Staying in His presence is the best way to live!
