Psalm 18:2
The Lord is my Rock and my Fortress and my Deliverer; my God, my Strength, in whom I will trust.
Life has a way of reminding us that we are not as self-reliant and independent as we often think. During seasons of uncertainty, disappointment, fear, and pain, the very foundations of our lives can feel shaken. In those moments, where do we turn for help? Is it to our Maker or to the things of the world that appear to offer a quick escape from our situation? Who we seek help from determines where our faith truly lies.
During his reign in Israel, King David was pursued for several reasons. On numerous occasions, he had to flee from the people he trusted. He even had to live in harsh conditions until God delivered him and set him on high. Yet in Psalm 18:2, David writes about how God is his strength and a safe place during trouble.
David did not write these words from a place of comfort. Rather, he wrote from his experience of God rescuing him through years of relentless persecution, battles, and from the hand of King Saul. Having experienced God’s faithfulness firsthand, David declared that the Lord was not merely someone who helped him occasionally – He was everything he needed.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being our place of refuge. Your strength sustains us in troubled times, and Your presence never leaves us. Help us rely on Your unwavering faithfulness as we traverse this path of life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
