HIS GREAT MERCY

For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him From generation to generation. Luke 1:49-50

This is the song that Mary, Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ sings when she visits her cousin Elizabeth. This beautiful season of Christmas as we take time to magnify God, thanking Him for all He has done for us, let us also look at the life of Mother Mary.
For us, it is a beautiful story as we know how the events turned out, but for Mother Mary, it was a dangerous story. It was a story that could have been discouraging, just as there was glory in the message that the angels brought, there was difficulty and trial, and there was even isolation and danger for Mary being the bearer of the Christ child.

She faced her trials by saturating her mind with the word of God. She models for us in her song of praise a mind that is saturated with the Scriptures from Psalm 103, and to Psalm 22, Psalm 44, Psalm 89. Let us be encouraged and grow in our acquaintance with Scripture. She worshipped God in thanksgiving and praise amid her trials.

We also see that Mary looks back at how God has dealt with His people and meditates on His goodness. She looks back at the way the Lord has surprised His people with grace and victory. And how God has surprised those who are powerful and yet in opposition to Him with Judgement. She sets her expectations in the Lord that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 8:13). It’s one of the best ways that we can cope with the difficult circumstances in our own lives.

This season of Christmas, let us remind ourselves of all He has done for us. That He is able. He is the Mighty God, Everlasting Father who came down for us to be sacrificed for our sins so that we may have eternal life (John 3:16). His hand is not short to deliver you in the areas of your life you are struggling with. His grace is sufficient for us (2 Corinthians 12:9).
