1John 3:24
“Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.“
1 John 3 discusses the importance of being a child of God and living accordingly. Being a child of God expects from us obedience, without which we truly cannot confirm our relationship with God. The outcome of a healthy relationship with our God is wholehearted obedience to His commandments. When we live by His principles it confirms that we abide by or remain in Him.
Abiding is not one way it is mutual, He abides in us too. Through the scripture, it is known that our obedience proves our abiding in God, however, how would we know if He abides in us too? It is the Holy Spirit’s indwelling in us that proves His abiding.
Holy Spirit as known is our Helper and Comforter; He helps us in our weakness, guides us in all truth, and is a seal of our salvation. Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God and co-heirs with Christ.
We cannot abide by our strength, we need God’s initiative for that. it results in Holy Spirit being active in our lives and helping us to obey and abide in Him. let us never suppress the Holy Spirit’s guidance and inspiration but allow Him to lead and guide us to be more fruitful for the honor, praise, and glory of God.
