Humility of Christ

Philippians 2:8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

In this verse, we witness the description of the purest form of humility, that is in the life of Jesus Christ. Despite Jesus being fully God, Jesus willingly took on human form, and became fully man, demonstrating divine humility. He not only embraced humanity but also submitted Himself to the point of death, even death on the cross, just so that we had a chance to be reconciled back to God.

The humility of Christ stands as a model for all of us. In His obedience to the Father’s will, even unto death, Jesus shows the ultimate act of selflessness and surrender. His humility wasn’t merely a posture of expression but a sacrificial lifestyle, marked by servanthood and love. This remained the centre of His teaching throughout His ministry. One such teaching is seen in Matthew 20:26-28.

As followers of Christ, we are called to mimic His characteristics in our day-to-day practices, especially through His humility. Just as Jesus humbled Himself for the sake of others, we are called to humble ourselves and serve one another with love and compassion. In doing so, we reflect the character of Christ and bring glory to God.

Today, let’s reflect and meditate on the humility of Christ. May His example inspire us to live lives of humility and obedience, following in His footsteps and surrendering our lives to the will of the Father.
