Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life

John 14:6:  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.  The stress on the word “I am” means there is nobody else other than Jesus. In Greek, it means “I  myself and only I , am.”  It is a very profound way of referring to oneself.  A very definite article “the” is being used here which means there is no other way, no other truth, or no other life except Jesus.

Jesus said He was going to prepare a mansion and that after it is done, He would come back and take us all to be with Him.  His disciples did not know where He was going or how to reach Him to get there.  Jesus just said “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”  Jesus is a guide for everyone stranded out there not knowing how to go about in their life or which path to take to reach their destination.  No wonder His once timid disciples started sharing the good news about Him that salvation is not found in anyone else other than Jesus.  He is the truth because He is the one and only righteous person.  Jesus is truth personified.  Truth acts on us and changes us.  He also said that He is the life because it is He who gives life to everyone, be it physical or spiritual.  His words are alive and they give us eternal life.  They rejuvenate a broken and a contrite spirit.  They heal the sick and raise the dead.

We serve a God who is the way, the truth, and the life.  We have come to know the Father through Jesus.  He will guide us and lead us until death.  To God be all the glory.
