Proverbs 16:9 – “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.”
“Follow your heart,” is a phrase we often hear around us. We believe that we must chase our dreams, pursue our passions and reach for the stars in order to become successful. However, the Bible has some contradictory advice. In Jeremiah 17:9, God reminds us that, “The heart is deceitful above all things.” We can’t always trust our hearts to guide us in the right path.
If we want to be obedient to God and receive His blessings, we must be able to surrender our heart’s desires and seek God’s plan for our individual lives. We are often tempted by the flashy goals that the world says we must achieve. As children of God, we should take our desires to the Lord in prayer and allow Him to plan the future.
No matter how grand your plans may be, God’s plans are greater. He created you and He knows what’s best for you. It’s okay to make plans and map out your goals. But it’s also important to be in touch with God through the process and allow Him to modify things as He sees fit. The success of a show largely depends on the person directing it. When you allow God to direct your thoughts, plans and actions, you can be assured your life will be more purposeful and successful than you could have ever imagined.
