Would you like to host Jesus and God our Father?

Matthew 10:40 – “He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”

Often we may do good things that go unnoticed by society or even by our near and dear ones. On the other hand, we may put up with some nastily-behaved adults, irritating neighbours, annoying colleagues, or pesky brats. We patiently do what we think is right in the eyes of God. We try and behave like Jesus would do. We do this as a direct service to God and not to the person(s). We ought not to look for gratification from people. If we do that, our intention is to please the people around us and not please God. We ought to treat people like how we want to be treated by them. “Do unto others as you would like them do unto you.”

In the scripture, Jesus promised that whoever received His disciples who were doing His work (which are all believers, including you and me) invited and received Jesus in their house. This receiving encompasses all the peace, love, and abundance that follows Jesus where ever He goes. Further, those who received Jesus (as Lord and Saviour into their home) received God as their Father. With God as our Father, we will always have unconditional love which is incomparable to anything in this world, protection against all, provision to the extent we cannot imagine, guidance in His ways, learning of His will, etc. Can you think of anything more that a human will want or ever need?

Why do we not receive and treat well the people doing God’s work? Why do we expect them to live in a simple and humble manner when, just like us, they are children of God on His mission and purpose here on earth? Are we missing something? Are we treating our fellow believers right; are we doing what God called us to do? Do we receive God our Father and Jesus our Lord with love when we invite and host our brothers and sisters in Christ, or do we grumble behind their backs?
