Lips that praise

Psalm 63:3 – “Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.”

Have you experienced God’s love in your life? There are just these moments when we just know, beyond any doubt, that God loves us. We are moved to tears when we think of how much Jesus loves us… so much that He was willing to die for us, so we may live. But these moments when we emotionally feel God’s love for us are not sufficient.

The Bible reminds us that God’s love is steadfast. God’s love for us is the same, whether we’re inside the church or out with our friends. His love for us does not change. We may feel His love when we’re singing a worship song on Sunday, but His love still remains when we get on with our work on Monday. Often, we think of how much God loves us only when we’re on emotional highs. We need to remember that Jesus still loves us when we’re going through deep, troubling valleys as well.

The Psalmist confessed that God’s steadfast love is better than life itself. God’s love for us remains the same, no matter how we feel. So, when we’re feeling low and God seems far away, the best thing we can do is confess with our mouths what we believe in our hearts – that God is good, and He still loves us. May we not use our lips to mouth obscenities, speak negatively, or pull someone else down. Rather, may our lips always praise the One who’s love is better than life.
