No more fear

Romans 8:14,15 – “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!'”

Fear is such a powerful emotion. Some of our fears can be justified, like fear of heights or fear of insects. But often, the fears that consume us are of our own making. We fear sickness and death. We fear missed opportunities and failure. We fear ridicule from our peers and deception by those we trust.

Today’s passage cautions us that when we give in to fear, we are bound to it. We become slaves of the very thing we fear. If we give in to fear, it can consume us from the inside out and rip our life to shreds. What then is the solution? A healthy fear of the Lord. Not that we live in fear of God’s wrath, but a reverential attitude that makes us want to please Him with our lives.

God has set us free from our fears through Christ. We are no longer slaves to fear; we have been adopted as His children – His heirs. A royal heir fears nothing as long as the king is on the throne. And our Father, the King of kings, reigns forever. We have nothing to fear because God is by our side. Do not allow fear to reign in your heart. Live as a child of the only Living God who loves you and cares deeply for you.
