Loving like God would

Luke 6:35:  But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. (KJV).

Loving people who wrong us or who plan evil against us is something that a worldly person would refrain from doing.  The Lord Jesus reversed the whole concept here and told us to love our enemies and to do good to them.  He told us to help those in need without expecting anything in return.  Great is the reward of those who do what Jesus says.

It is God’s desire that we love those who hate us and do us wrong.  He wants us to pray for them.  In fact, when the Lord Jesus was on the cross, He asked God the Father to forgive those who ill-treated and mocked Him.  God is so rich in love that He expects His children also to be like Him.  These little things which we do not care about are the things that God cares.  God is kind to everyone, to the unthankful and to the evil.  He is not a respecter of persons.  God wants us to repay evil with good.  He does not want us to expect anything in return from anyone who receives a good thing from us.

Doing good to our enemies does not guarantee us our seat in heaven, but it does bring a smile on God’s face.  Let us show our love for everyone in our actions and deeds.
