1 Peter 2:2-3 (NKJV) – “As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.”

A newborn baby desires his or her mother’s milk for nourishment; to grow and to be healthy. Through Jesus Christ, we are born again and are like newborn babies in Christ. We must desire God’s Word for nourishment – to grow spiritually. When we feed ourselves with the Word of God, our obedience allows us to grow in our relationship with God, our behavior changes from the inside out and becomes more Christ-like, and we receive spiritual nourishment that keeps our minds and therefore our bodies healthy and pure.

In the Old Testament, people had to sacrifice animals such as lambs to atone for their sins. Jesus came to Earth and died on the cross for us, as a living sacrifice to blot out our sins. So, when we are reborn in Christ, we become pure and without sin. Hence, it is important for us to continue to live a life that is free from sin and to grow more like Jesus every day. For this, we must feed ourselves with the nourishment from the Word of God and not let our worldly commitments take us away from that. Let God’s Word feed our spirituality continuously because the more we feed off it, the more we will allow God to work in our lives and mold us in His ways.

As we read the Word of God and let the Holy Spirit reveal the meaning of the Word to us, we get to learn about God’s nature. We know more of His unconditional love for us, His Grace, and Mercy, that He has given to us. We understand more about ourselves and step by step God reveals His plan in our life as we grow closer to Him.
