Hosea 12:6
So you, by the help of your God, return; observe mercy and justice, and wait on your God continually.
Hosea, whose name means Salvation, was a prophet who truly lived out the message he preached. He married Gomer, knowing she might be unfaithful. Though betrayal tore his heart, he obeyed in faith and waited on God expectantly. Hosea displayed the mercy of God by redeeming Gomer and loving her as his beloved, even though she had been unfaithful.
Is not this exactly what Jesus did for you and me? We were just like Gomer, drowning in sin, unfaithful to our God. Then on a blessed day, Jesus came, paid the price, and redeemed us to be His holy bride.
Do you know how deeply God loves you? Hosea 11:8 reveals His loving heart when He says, “How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel?” Pause. Replace the names “Ephraim” and “Israel” with your own name, and read it again. Can you taste His yearning for you?
Remember, sin is insidious. It may look harmless at first, but ends in destruction and separation from God. Therefore, let us not allow the seed of sin to germinate in our hearts. Like a watchful gardener, let us uproot these weeds with God’s help.
Return to the Lord. Wait in hope for His guidance. Walk in mercy and justice. Be a powerful witness by demonstrating God’s unconditional love through your life.
God’s cry to His people is still the same: Return to me, and I will return to you (Zechariah 1:3).
