Obedience brings blessings

Deuteronomy 28:2:  And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.

This chapter is a chapter of blessings and curses that would come upon the people of Israel if they listen to God and/or disobey God.  God wanted them to experience His love for them and see them blessed rather than being cursed through disobedience and rebellion.

God said to them through Moses that if they hearken or listen to the voice of God that blessings would come upon them and that they would overtake them.  The key to receiving blessings is obeying God completely, not partially.  God is not interested in your abilities or talents.  He is not interested in rebellious and disobedient people.  He just wants His people to know the basics to enjoying His blessings upon their life.  God has made it so simple to enjoy His blessings.  He does not ask us something that we cannot afford.  He has never in history asked anybody to offer or give Him something in return for His blessings.  He does not have a barter system up there.  All that He desires from us is to obey Him.  It is as simple as that.

God blesses us but there are conditions and terms that apply.  It would be so decent if we obey God and inherit the blessings that are due us rather than disobey and inherit curse.  The psalmist writes in Psalm 23, “surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life.”  This is another type of God’s blessings for those who trust Him for their provisions.  God has made it not so complicated for us to be blessed.  Let us not be hard on ourselves and lose what He has promised for us.
