Psalm 68:5 NKJV
“A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation.”
King David must have known a thing or two about feeling fatherless. While he wasn’t orphaned, his father barely remembered him when the prophet Samuel visited their house to anoint the next king of Israel. David probably felt insignificant and left out for most of his childhood, but God saw him and lifted him up. A lowly shepherd boy became the most successful king of Israel.
The fatherless and widows are considered some of the most vulnerable people in any society. They are easily taken advantage of because they don’t have an authority figure in the family to stand up for them and their rights. But they’re not without help – God Himself is their Father and Defender.
