Pray with Thanksgiving

Colossians 4:2 NKJV

“Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.”

The Amplified Bible details today’s verse as: “Be persistent and devoted to prayer, being alert and focused in your prayer life with an attitude of thanksgiving.” Let’s unpack the essential characteristics of prayer that this verse outlines.

Persistence: Keep praying until you receive your breakthrough. Remember the acronym P.U.S.H. (Pray Until Something Happens). Either God will transform your situation or He will transform you through the situation.

Devotion: Inculcate a strong desire in your heart to pray. Dedicate a time for prayer every day and ask God to help you be disciplined with it.

Alertness: Be aware of things that you need to pray about. If you catch yourself worrying about something, consciously turn it into a prayer.

Focus: Ensure that the time you spend with God is distraction-free. Don’t let internal or external factors divert your prayers.

Thanksgiving: Pray with thanksgiving – list out all the things you’re grateful for. Even if you can’t thank God for your current circumstance, you can still praise God because He is on the throne and He is in control of your life.

When you diligently spend time with God in prayer and thanksgiving, you will cultivate an attitude of gratitude and you will start seeing God’s hand at work in your life.
