Rhythms of Work and Rest

Psalm 127:2 NKJV

“It is vain for you to rise up early, To sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep.”

Busyness seems to be a badge that everyone wears nowadays. The morning rush to get out the door on time, the work that fills our day, chores that are piled up by evening, and outdoor errands to run – it’s no wonder we barely have time to rest and recuperate.

Today’s verse reminds us that all our work is in vain unless we learn to rest in the Lord. Work is a blessing and it’s something God entrusted to mankind in the Garden of Eden. When we consider our daily work as a gift from God, we rely on God to give us the wisdom, grace, and strength to do it well.

If you’re so busy that you hardly have time to spend with God or your family, perhaps it’s time to let God reprioritize your day. Surrender your worries, cares, and burdens to God, and let Him direct your schedule each day.

God is more than able to provide for your needs. Give Him the steering wheel of your life, and let Him guide you into a balanced rhythm of work and rest. When you let God take control, He will lead you to green pastures and still waters, and restore your soul.
