Proverbs 8:17
I love those who love Me, and those who seek Me diligently will find Me.
Here, wisdom speaks as a person, not as an abstract idea, but calling people to a better way of life. Earlier in this chapter, wisdom calls everyone, laying out an open invitation by declaring its benefits – life, stability, and righteousness – while also warning that ignoring it will be disastrous.
Proverbs 8:17 sits within that invitation. Here, wisdom responds to desire. “I love those who love me” does not describe favouritism in the sense that only certain people are accepted. Rather, it stresses the importance of the relationship. Those who value wisdom will reap its benefits.
The word “love” means to treasure, pursue faithfully, and align your life with what you value. Loving wisdom means loving truth more than convenience, being teachable, and seeking godly counsel rather than yielding to ego or pride. Our hearts tend to grow toward what we deeply pursue.
The phrase “those who seek me diligently” talks about intentional pursuit, not driven by whims or wishes but by a sincere desire for wisdom. Wisdom is not gained by accident. Scripture presents wisdom as something cultivated through humility, listening, obedience, reflection, and reverence for God. The promise “will find me” does not mean we will receive instant answers to every problem. It means that those who seek wisdom will find truth, discernment, and guidance.
So, let’s develop a deeper desire to know and seek God’s wisdom to live the life He has planned for us. We know that God has promised to give wisdom generously to those who ask Him (James 1:5). With the confidence that God never lies and that He is generous in His grace, let’s ask Him for wisdom and understanding in all our ways.
