Deuteronomy 28:13
The Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only and not be beneath if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.
God’s desire is not merely to bless His people but to use them as a testimony to the world around them. The promise of being “the head and not the tail” speaks of leadership, purpose, and godly impact. It describes a life guided by God’s wisdom rather than one driven by circumstances, pressures, or popular opinion.
Consider two employees in the same workplace. One constantly follows the crowd, compromises convictions, and reacts to every situation around them. The other quietly walks in integrity, keeps his word, treats people with respect, and honours God in his decisions. Over time, people begin to trust his judgement, seek his advice, and respect his character. He may not hold the highest position, but his life sets an example for others because it is built on godly principles.
This is the heart of God’s promise. Being the “head” is not about superiority or self-promotion. It is about living under God’s authority so that your life reflects His character. When we obey His Word, we gain wisdom for decisions, strength for challenges, and stability in uncertain times. God uses faithful believers to be examples of hope, integrity, and encouragement wherever they are.
The world teaches us to rise through ambition. God teaches us to rise through obedience. As we align our lives with His will, He enables us to lead by example and bring glory to His name.
Prayer: Lord, help me walk faithfully in Your ways and be an example that points others to You. Amen.
