I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope. Psalm 16:8-9
Have you ever had something come into your mind that led you to fear, frustration, anxiety or anger? These are things the enemy uses as a strategy to shake us up or distract us. There is something we could practice as children of God: Prioritize and Focus.
The psalmist encourages us to practice making the Lord Jesus our priority. Fix our eyes on Him. The word says, focus on true things, things that are noble, just, pure, lovely, things that have a good report, and things of virtue and praise (Philippians 4:8).
Let’s look at what happens as a result of keeping our eyes on the Lord.
Firstly, when we fix our eyes on Lord Jesus: we have peace. God becomes our strength. We’ll be rock solid in our faith and not easily moved by opposition or challenges. Regardless of the battles, we may be facing: our God is our strength. As firm as David’s confidence is, ours can be even more solid today. We can rest in the complete assurance that Lord Jesus is with us in all situations.
Secondly, when we fix our eyes on Lord Jesus: we have joy in us. He gives us joy, and He is faithful despite our adverse circumstances.
Thirdly, He gives us direction and all eternal pleasures! The next verse says, “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” By keeping our eyes on the Lord, we can know the path of life; we are filled with joy and His eternal pleasures!
