Sanctified by God

1 Thessalonians 5:23 – May the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

When a child walking on a muddy path stumbles, he or she touches the ground with their hands for support to steady themselves. But once they get up, they look at the mud on their hands and are unhappy. They run to their parents to clean their hands and the parents using water, tissue or wipes, clean their child’s hands. The child is absolutely confident that the parent will wash their hands and make them look clean again.

In the same way, when we live our lives the way God has intended for us, our human nature and frailties make us stumble or divert from the path, and we dirty ourselves with sin. At such times, we must run to our Heavenly Father, the God of peace, to cleanse us from sin and bring us back onto the path of righteousness. We must understand that God does not cleanse us once, twice or a finite number of times. His cleansing is infinite; that’s the love we enjoy of being His chosen children.

When God sanctifies us, it’s not only the body or the mind, but He also works on every part of us, from our body to our spirit to our soul. He looks to remove any spot, any trace of sin that we may have in our lives and make us blameless so that when His son Jesus Christ returns for us, we will be pure and untainted by sin.
