The God of Promises

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

God’s promises will never fail. God has vowed that His promises will never fail us. What is the difference between these two statements? The first one is an affirmation based on the miracles, wonders, provisions, and favor of God that we’ve seen repeatedly from the stories in the Bible and our daily lives. The second statement is an assurance that God will not fail us.

As humans, we tend to believe what we see or experience. We have seen the hand of God over His children. We saw God fulfil His promise to Noah when he saved him from the floods, to Abraham through Isaac, and to all of us when He sent His only son Jesus to pay the price of our sins on the cross.

God’s promises will be fulfilled but often not when we think we need them. Trials, tribulations, and temptations are continually present in our lives. It is tough to hold on to God’s promises when the situation seems hopeless, and we eventually doubt God. However, God designed us and holds us in the palm of His hands. He plans to prosper us, and as His children, we should open our hearts and stay strong in faith, knowing that God is with us and He will provide for us when the time is right.

God has never forsaken His children. No matter how far we stray, how hopeless we feel, or how desolate we are, He is always with us. This great promise of God, of His unconditional love, mercy, grace, and forgiveness, is one that we can rely on.
