Proverbs 10:22
The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.
The world we live in is often obsessed with wealth, possessions, and success. It’s natural to desire a better home, a better vehicle, or a better standard of living. However, these desires can easily become selfish pursuits that tempt us to ignore biblical precepts and compromise our integrity. Today’s proverb reminds us that God is the source of every blessing, and He adds no sorrow with it.
If we strive to gain wealth and worldly success on our own terms, we may become discontent, envious, greedy, and even burnt out from our efforts. Yet when we commit our ways to the Lord (Psalm 37:5) and do our work as an act of worship unto Him (Colossians 3:23-24), we experience His favour and blessing in our lives.
Today, let’s ask ourselves what kind of blessings we are chasing. Are we pursuing only what the world considers valuable, or what the Bible calls a blessing? Are we selfishly seeking wealth and status to just elevate our own selves? Or are we seeking God first and striving to bring Him glory through our daily work? Moreover, are we being good stewards of the blessings God has already given us by His grace?
Let’s remember that our heavenly Father delights in giving good gifts to His children (Matthew 7:11). Our own efforts may wear us out, but the grace of God sustains us. He doesn’t withhold any good thing from those who walk with integrity (Psalm 84:11). As we seek Him first, we can trust Him to provide everything that we need to fulfil His purpose in our lives.
