The Father’s Love

John 17:23 – “That they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.”

Today’s verse is a portion of Jesus’ prayer to God, the Father. Jesus speaks as a beloved Son, but also as a High Priest on behalf of those who believe in Him (John 17:20). Jesus’s desire was that we would be one with Him and with each other, dwelling in His love for us.

Our Father’s love for us is incomparable, unconditional and undeserving. While we were still sinners, He sent His only Son to die in our place. How many of us would let our innocent kids bear the punishment of a seasoned sinner? Yet, that’s exactly what God did. And Jesus went along with the plan, willingly giving up His life so we can live.

When we truly understand the love the Father has lavished on us, we will be eager to share the same love with others. The glory that Jesus received from God has been given to us (John 17:22). As His children, it is both our privilege and duty to love unconditionally, forgive willingly and offer the same grace we’ve experienced. Take a minute to pray that God will fill your heart with more of His love, so it will overflow into the lives of those you encounter today.
