Zephaniah 3:17 – “The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, … He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”
When we are feeling down, lonely, lost, sick, in despair, confused, anxious, unsure about so many things in life, we must remember that God is with us. But depending on how severe these feelings are, our emotions can ‘trick’ us to forget His ever present help, and His presence.
It is easier to feel ‘joyful’ when things are going well – another completely different situation when the opposite is happening, when a loved one is in a hospital because of sickness, or when we lose a loved one.
Our God will ‘quiet’ us with His love. He will ‘silence’ our fears when they begin to speak and sound louder than His mighty voice. We must remember that perfect love drives out fear, and God’s love for us is perfect.
Our God ‘is’ joy. His joy goes with Him wherever He is, and joy is a fruit of the Spirit. It does not mean silly giggling. It is more than that, it flows from Him. Even in sadness, His joy nurtures and satisfies our deepest emotional needs.
And when Our God sings, the earth trembles! His voice is like thunder, and also like the sound of rushing waters. Powerful, gentle and amazingly melodic!
Our Jesus gives us His joy, in Him we are secure, in Him we find strength, in Him we are and feel safe. Amen!
