Psalm 35:18

I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people.

Psalm 35 is called a ‘lament psalm.’ Where David was deeply affected by the evil enemies he had and all the trouble they were causing him. He begins this psalm beautifully, by asking the Lord Himself to fight against those who were fighting him. Because his enemies did all of this ‘without cause.’ David hadn’t provoked them in any way whatsoever. They were false witnesses, repaying him evil for good. That means though he was kind and giving towards them, yet, they mocked him and rejoiced in his adversity.

While David is making his petition known to the Lord, he states this verse. He was confident when the Lord steps in and becomes his salvation, David was going to give the Lord the highest praise. It was like he was committing to worship the Lord in the midst of a multitude. Another version of the Bible puts it beautifully-I will lift your praise with a shout in front of the largest crowd I can find.

Today, is the last day of this year. Large crowds will be gathering in various places for different purposes. We’ve all had good experiences as well as painful ones this year. On this day, let us lay it all aside, trusting the Lord to fight for us. In return, let’s commit to give Him the highest praise in the midst of the multitudes because He is worthy.
