The Lord thinks of you

Psalm 40:17 – “But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.”

David is known to be a passionate worshiper of God. This is evidenced by the number of psalms he wrote, and how his response to every situation was usually praise. It’s not that David did not have any difficulties in his life. He had been ignored by his father, and the reigning king wanted to murder him. He had to run for his life and lived as a renegade for several years. Even after his coronation as king, he experienced wars on all sides, and his own son tried to oust him. Not to mention, the whole adultery/murder issue that made David experience the weight of his sin, and lose his child.

Chances are, most of us are going through similar trials – loneliness, betrayal, personal battles, the guilt of sin, loss of a loved one… But our response needs to be similar to David’s too! When he was poor in the spirit and needed comfort, David held on to the assurance that God thought of him. Let us follow David’s lead and remember that even at times when worries and fears drown out our thoughts of God, He thinks of us.

Prayer: Lord, I feel so hurt and upset, and need Your comfort. I know you love me, and you’re thinking of me right now. You alone are my help… deliver me from the worries and fears that pull me down. I believe you won’t delay, Lord. Give me strength to persevere in prayer, and continue praising You, no matter what. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
