Psalm 91:13 – “You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.”
Psalm 91 is a psalm of blessing over those who dwell in the presence of the Lord. It is a passage many look to when they feel anxious or afraid. Every verse speaks of the Lord’s protection over those who trust in Him. When you take refuge in the Lord, you can claim every verse in this psalm as a promise over your own life.
God will cover you with His protection and deliver you from worldly snares (Psalm 91:3). You will not fear violence or destruction (Psalm 91:5-6). No evil or plague will come near you (Psalm 91:10). God commands His angels to watch over you and guard you (Psalm 91:11). You will trample the evils that come against you and you will be victorious over them. Whether it is something powerful and violent like a lion, or secretive and cunning like a snake, the Lord gives you power over it.
In olden days, captured enemies would lie prostrate and the conqueror would place his foot over them to reinforce their submission. God will help you conquer your darkest fears and have dominion over the thoughts and situations that threaten your peace. Remember, you are not alone. An army of angels encamps around you. They will bear you up and keep you from evil.
When you hold fast to the Lord, He will deliver you. He will protect you. When you call to Him, He will answer you. He will be with you in trouble; He will rescue you and honor you (Psalm 91:14-15).
