The Principle of Increase

Proverbs 3:9-10 – “Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.”

This proverb was written as loving instruction from a father to his son. The son is given valuable advice to trust in the Lord and pursue wisdom. Somewhere in the middle, he is also taught how to honor the Lord with what he has. The Bible mentions it over and over again, those who bless the Lord with what they have will receive abundantly more from Him.

Whatever you have right now is a gift from the Lord. Whether it is your body, your job, your family or even your time… God has given it to you, so you can steward it well as long as you live on this earth. When you give a portion of God’s blessing back to Him, it will not diminish what you have. Instead, He will multiply it and make it increase all the more.

“Those that do good with what they have, shall have more to do more good with.” – Matthew Henry Commentary

Perhaps you have only a small income, very little energy or just a tiny ounce of patience. Entrust what little you have to the Lord; use it to serve Him and the people He’s placed in your life. And you will see the Biblical principle of increase evident in your life. You will find that you have everything you need. You will not lack any good thing because the Lord Himself will provide for you. Try it out and see if it’s not true in your own life.
