The Rock of Refuge

Psalm 71:3 – “Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.”

Rocks come in various sizes and shapes, and they serve various purposes in nature. They are known to be strong and trustworthy, protecting various flora and fauna in the face of harsh weather. During battles, people used to hide behind huge rocks or in rocky caves so the enemy doesn’t spot them.

While hiding behind a rock might be a good defence move for soldiers, it is a proactive move for those who believe in Christ. Since our God is the Rock of Ages, our strong habitation who cannot be moved, running to Him is the best thing we can ever do. Whether you’re going through a really tough day or just an ordinary one, you must remember to seek the Lord continually.

As the Rock of Refuge:

•   God grants you protection when trials assail you.
•   He hides you from your enemies.
•   He provides a safe place for you to rest.
•   He shelters you from the storm.
•   He gives you peace and a moment to catch your breath.

Don’t use God as a fort that you run to only when you’re under attack. Let Him be your daily refuge – your safe place. You can come as you are to Him; You can be honest and vulnerable with Him. God knows you and understands what you need. Cling on to Him and you will not be shaken.
