The Rock That Nourishes

Psalm 62:6

He only is my Rock and my Salvation; He is my Defence; I shall not be moved.

When we read this verse, we naturally feel comforted by the safety and protection that God provides as our Rock. He is our defence and refuge in the absolute midst of adversities. Because the Lord stands firm, we can confidently proclaim that we shall not be moved.

But there is another powerful perspective we can consider. In 1 Corinthians 10:4, Christ is identified as the spiritual Rock from whom the Israelites received water in the wilderness. It reminds us that Jesus continues to offer us living water that truly satisfies us and gives eternal life.

In the wilderness, Moses and the Israelites had a fountain of water flowing from a rock to nourish them and soothe their thirst. That rock became God’s means of preserving their lives. In a similar way, Jesus, our Rock, continually nourishes us with the living water of His grace. He satisfies our deepest spiritual thirst so that we never thirst again, and He leads us to eternal life in Him (John 4:13-14).

Today, let’s be mindful of where we place our foundation. We must build our lives upon the Lord – the Rock of our salvation. He is the Rock who protects, defends, and shelters us. Moreover, He is also the Rock who nourishes us. Even in seasons when we feel completely helpless, we can depend on Him for daily, unfailing nourishment that only He can provide.
