Nahum 1:7
The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in him.
Unexpected troubles have become a staple part of life these days. News channels regularly feed us reports of disaster, conflict, and chaos. It’s no surprise that people feel unsafe, overwhelmed, and easily gripped by paralyzing anxiety and fear. Yet, in the midst of this constant uncertainty, Nahum 1:7 reassures us that the Lord is our stronghold.
The prophet specifically points to God’s unchanging goodness as our baseline reality. His character remains perfectly good even when life turns brutal. Therefore, our confidence during a crisis does not depend on our own strength. Instead, it rests entirely on the foundational truth that God loves us and cares for us.
A stronghold provides real protection against a raging enemy. We must actively view God as our stronghold and run to Him for safety. Trouble will surely come our way, but God promises to shield us within His presence. He wants us to bring our fears to Him and find shelter under His wings. When we experience God’s personal care, we discover that He knows those who trust in Him. Rather than ignoring us, He watches over us with intimate detail.
The phrase “He knows those who trust in Him” implies a deep, relational bond. Trust is not simply knowing about God, but casting our entire weight upon Him during a dark season. When we truly trust Him, we can find peace despite the howling winds around us. We stand firm in the end because our Protector cannot fail.
So, let this powerful promise anchor your soul. Instead of drowning in fear, actively choose to trust the Lord. You can find a safe hiding place in Him. His goodness will sustain you in every storm.
