The yoke of slavery

Galatians 5:1 – “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

The yoke of sin is a hard one to bear. It is heavy, merciless, and rarely gives us a break. But Jesus came down for us, and gave His life to purchase our freedom. Once we believe that the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sins, we are free indeed. But so often, we return to slavery and place the yoke of sin back on our own necks.

We need to remember that our freedom was not cheap. Jesus shed His blood and died a very painful death, just so we would be free. We cannot take it for granted. We need to be cautious and on our guard, so we do not slip back into our old, habitual sins. So, what can we do to avoid going back to the yoke of slavery? We need to stand firm, and the Word of God is a great place to start.

Think about the areas where you are weak and prone to sin, and look up what the Bible says about it. Memorize a few verses, and arm yourself with the Word. The next time you are tempted to sin, remind yourself of those verses. Speak them out if you must. The Holy Spirit will help you flee from temptation and overcome it by the Word of God. The power of God is at work in your life to help you live free. Tap into that power today!
