Psalm 1:1

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.

Psalm 1 is called the preamble to the book of Psalms. It is the introduction to the entire book, and Psalm 1 is an answer to so many life situations we face today.

Let us be honest here; we all want to be blessed. To experience God’s grace and favor, to be healed, and to be led by the Holy Spirit is the dream of every Christian. And at one point we all have asked God: How can I be blessed in this life?

The Bible has mentioned an ample amount of times that our Lord wants us to be blessed and experience a happy life. How do we receive God’s blessings and live life to the fullest?

Blessings are the result of our choice to follow God’s will and his commandments. David sets two directions: one that leads to blessings, the right way, and the other that leads to misery.

As Psalms 1:1 says, blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. It captures both the old and new testaments. In the Old Testament, God teaches that one’s choice will determine the outcome of life (Deut. 30:19). In the New Testament, Jesus’ message to people is to choose the right way in life (Matt. 7:13–14).

The scripture filters down to walk, stand, and sit.

  • Walks not in the counsel of the ungodly
  • Stands in the path of sinners
  • Sits in the seat of the scornful

Let us make a constant choice to follow God’s will and live God’s promise to the fullest.
