Psalm 128:1
“Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways.”
There is a difference between loving and fearing God. We can love our parents and still disobey them due to a lack of fear. There needs to be a healthy balance between fear and love for God. Healthy fear towards the Lord is as much as we love the Lord.
In Psalm 128:1, fear does not symbolize a negative feeling like being afraid or dreadful; instead, it stands for a positive feeling like respect and honor. Love is when we do not want to disappoint the Lord, and fear is when we walk in His ways because we respect what God has commanded us to do. As parents, we want our children to have fear so they know some actions may have wrong consequences. Fear of the Lord is an important aspect of our journey with Christ.
