We Have a Living Hope

1 Peter 1:3

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”

The dictionary provides three definitions for the word ‘hope’:

• a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen.
• a person or thing that may help or save someone.
• grounds for believing that something good may happen.

When you look closer at these meanings, you’ll find that it’s only the Lord Jesus Christ who satisfies all of them. Our greatest need is for someone to save us from our sins, from our past, and from ourselves. Jesus Christ did that by dying on the cross in our stead.

Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, He conquered sin and death, granting us the gift of eternal life with Him. When you put your hope in the Lord Jesus Christ, you can always believe that something good will happen. It may not look like things are working in your favor but God is always at work. He will turn things around for your good and His glory.

You may feel overwhelmed by your circumstances, but don’t forget that you are never without hope. You are born again as a child of God. You have a living hope – His Name is Jesus. Don’t let hopelessness get the final say in your life. When you trust in the Lord, you will not be put to shame (Romans 10:11). Let your hope be anchored in Christ alone.
