What do you hear?

Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭17‬ – “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

The blessing of being able to hear is that we hear something or the other all the time. The harsh beeping of the alarm in the morning, the sound of running water, the birds singing, the sound of a busy road, dogs barking, the wind howling, people talking on their mobile phones, the TV blaring… the list goes on. There is no end to the amount of noise our ears are privy to during the course of the day. But the loudest voices we often hear, are those within our own heads.

The voice in our head taunts, “You’re stupid”, when we’ve forgotten an important deadline. It jeers, “You’re a failure” when we receive a bad result. “You don’t look good”, shouts the voice when we look in the mirror. “You can’t do it”, it discourages when we’re about to embark on something new. So often, it is the negative voices in our own head that keep us from moving forward. But what’s the remedy? The Word of God!

We know that God’s Word is true, and it often tells us a different story from what we tell ourselves. The Bible reminds us that we are loved, we are special, God has good plans for us, He will never forsake us, we need not fear because He is with us… The next time the voice in your head bullies you with negative thoughts, remind yourself of God’s Word. What the Bible says about you is infinitely more important that what you think about yourself. Allow the Word of God to build your faith and encourage you today!
