Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Have you noticed that the intent behind a question holds the key to the right answer?
Ask Jesus
The Lord Jesus was the go-to for answers to questions of any kind during His time on Earth. From everyday questions asked by the disciples to spiritual questions that revolved around attaining eternal life, Jesus was asked innumerable questions by people of different nationalities, and castes.
While He took a personal interest in answering those questions, He wasn’t very pleased with questions asked by the Pharisees and Sadducees.
From questioning a miracle on the Sabbath to asking if it was right to pay taxes to Caesar, every question posed by these “leaders” was intended to catch Jesus off-guard. Of course, that was harder than catching a fish in the sea with one’s bare hands, but it didn’t stop them from trying, until…
Jesus Asks
One day the Lord Jesus decided to ask them a question of His own.
He asked the Pharisees, “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?” – Matthew 22:42
Immediately, they replied. “The son of David.”
Jesus asked, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’?
“If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?”
Jesus was telling the Pharisees that He was more than a descendant of David. He was inviting them to discover the fullness of Christ and experience the magnificence of His glory. He wanted them to know the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.
But the Pharisees weren’t concerned with getting to know the real Jesus. They intended to disprove His divinity.
And they believed that they succeeded when they had Him crucified. But their “victory” lasted only 3 days. After the resurrection, all that lingered was an empty tomb and the question that hounded them forever, “What if we’d asked our questions with the intention of getting to know Him personally?”
The Life-Changing Revelation
What are the questions that we are asking God today? More importantly, what is the intention behind these questions?
Do we know Jesus as the “Son of David” or as the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace?
Maybe it’s time to reexamine our intention, because our intention will lead to our revelation!
