The Divine Promise

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Burning the Bridge

The Garden of Eden was nothing short of paradise. Yet, both Adam and Eve went against God and ate the forbidden fruit. And through it, sin crept into mankind and destroyed the perfect relationship we had with God.

Satan’s agenda was fulfilled and in celebrating his victory, he ignored a divine promise – “I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head and you shall bruise His heel” – Genesis 3:15.

This was the first time that God promised a saviour for mankind. God even prophesied the virgin birth of Jesus through “her seed” in the verse above.

Cross-ing the Bridge

Centuries passed before the time was right for the fulfillment of the promise. And so the Saviour was born.

Satan tried his very best to thwart the plan of God. From tempting Jesus with his worldly promises of wealth and grandeur to orchestrating His crucifixion, satan worked overtime to distract Jesus. Little did he realise that he was playing the lead role in bringing God’s promises to pass.

After the crucifixion, Jesus stepped into hell and snatched its keys from satan. In doing so, not only did Jesus win the war against satan on his turf, but fulfilled God’s promise and made a way for us to experience a personal relationship with Him.

Have you experienced God as a friend? Jesus displayed the truest form of friendship when He died for our sins to restore the perfect relationship between us and God. Let’s not miss out on this opportunity to forge an eternal friendship with the One who loves us more than we can imagine.
