Psalm 100:3 Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Identity crisis is a real issue. The world today offers options aplenty for people to choose from when forming their identities. It may be their profession, wealth, or social status, among many other more perplexing possibilities.

Do you know the only common denominator that encompasses the choices above? All of them are founded on shaky ground. Just one tremor and everything that’s built on worldly achievements will come crashing down.

But the sheep of His pasture will never lose their identity. Who better to write about this than the once shepherd himself – King David?

The Training Ground

Although David vastly benefitted from his time as a shepherd, where he perfected the art of using a sling and grew in courage by having to ward off wild animals – he did not base his identity on his profession. He knew that his identity was in the Lord!

The Obstacle Course

So when his destiny came calling, he was ready to go where God led him. Even his own family could not hinder him. And trust me, they tried hard! Though it was unintentional, their words and actions were quite demeaning.

When David wanted to fight Goliath, his brothers mocked him by telling him to go back to his sheep. But David ignored them. When Samuel wanted to anoint David as king, his own father presented 7 of his other sons, but forgot about David who was tending the sheep. But David ignored this as well.

The Secret to Rising in Rank

How could David ignore such blatant disregard from his own family?

He was beyond confident that what God had destined for him would reach him irrespective of external circumstances. He was made for greatness, just like every child of God!

Are you ready to step into the greatness God has planned for you? The secret to getting there lies in your identity.

Do you identify as a child of the all-powerful creator of the universe, who made you and will shepherd you to greatness?
