“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
Colossians 3:23 NIV
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.
Monday mornings transform once you recognize your true employer. Paul wrote today’s verse to ordinary workers and servants. He reminded them that the Lord owns every task, no matter how small.
Pat Gelsinger, a tech leader who directed Intel and other major companies, frequently states that Jesus Christ is his boss. Consider that reality – a CEO managing thousands of employees still submitted to a higher authority daily.
Joseph embodied this principle. Though sold into slavery and imprisoned unjustly, he never sulked or slacked. He served Potiphar faithfully and managed prison duties diligently. Consequently, God’s favor followed him all the way to Pharaoh’s palace.
Keep these principles in mind at work:
1. Perform hidden tasks as carefully as public ones. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:6 that our Father sees secret efforts and rewards them, regardless of human recognition.
2. Maintain integrity when unsupervised. Proverbs 11:1 teaches that the Lord delights in honest standards and fair dealings, down to the smallest detail.
3. Encourage your coworkers instead of competing with them. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 urges us to build each other up, choosing mutual support over rivalry.
4. Deliver excellence in every email, meeting, and assignment. Colossians 3:23 calls us to throw our full heart into our labor, serving the Lord instead of human supervisors. We are called for excellence.
Carry this truth into your workday: God notices every effort and gives purpose to every routine. When you honor Jesus through daily details, routine tasks gain eternal value. Step forward with confidence, knowing your work matters and your ultimate reward remains secure in His hands.
