Philippians 1:6 NKJV “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;”
It’s easy to be discouraged when we don’t see results. It’s even harder when set expectations for ourselves and cannot measure up to them. Do you sometimes feel as though you are not making any progress in your spiritual life? The difference between us and God is this: when God sets out to do a good work, He doesn’t rest until it’s done. Believers in Christ are a work in progress.
Today’s verse is meant to encourage us. Though it was specifically written to the Philippian church, we can draw comfort from it. It says that God has started a good work in us; those of us who are baptized and saved in Christ Jesus. And He will continue it until the day we meet Him face to face.
God’s work for us began when Christ Jesus died on the cross in our place. His work in us began when we first truly believed. Now, the Holy Spirit lives in us, enabling us to be more like Christ every day. The good news, beloved friend, is that He hasn’t given up. We make mistakes but God in His mercy and love has promised to complete the good work He started. When you feel incomplete, inadequate, or distressed by your shortcomings, remember God’s promise and provision. All His promises are yes and Amen.
Let us not allow our present circumstances to rob us of the joy of knowing Christ. Instead of being upset with ourselves, let’s choose to be thankful that He hasn’t given up on us. He has promised to be with us as we learn each day.
