2 Corinthians 9:6-7 – “The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Many of us are quite familiar with today’s verses with respect to giving financially to the Lord. But giving to the Lord is not just restricted to the monetary aspect. We can also give our time and talents by serving the Lord. When we look at these verses from the perspective of service to God, it gives us a new outlook.
We must be willing to serve God cheerfully and wholeheartedly. We mustn’t volunteer reluctantly or under compulsion. We need to remember that service that isn’t done out of love for God and His people is not really service at all. It would be just a show of service, done to impress man and not God.
If we want to be true disciples of God and grow in spiritual maturity, we must follow Jesus’ example and be willing to serve. While we must not serve expecting anything in return, the Biblical principle of reaping what we sow does apply. When we give our time, talent and treasure cheerfully to the Lord, we can expect to reap a many-fold blessing in our lives. Serve the Lord wholeheartedly and be blessed!
