1 Samuel 2:9—“He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.”
This scripture covers Hannah’s prayer of thanksgiving. Hannah knew that the Earth’s foundation itself—i.e., the pillars or very structures of the earth–belonged to the Lord. God has laid out His operations on a firm foundation. Hannah was confident that God is in control. She was confident in His ability that God can make the strong humble and promote the weak. If God were not in control, then maybe the strong would do what they wanted and God would not be able to stop them. Hannah praised God for His omnipotence and righteousness. At that time, Israel did not have a king. Hannah spoke “He will give strength to His king, and exalt the horn of His anointed” meaning: God would give strength to the Messiah, who would finally set all wrongs right. The Messiah would exalt the horn of His anointed.
How would God set wrongs right? God uses His power to set things right. Our adversaries are God’s adversaries too, because God has called us His friend. Even though we don’t see many things, God looks after the very hairs on our head in the Spirit world, apart from the Earth. It is not enough for us to believe that God has this power. We must ‘know’ that God will use it for His glory and righteousness. God protects the faithful. God protectively cares for his faithful friends, step by step. God sends His angels with his faithful ones lest they dash their foot on the stones. But, God leaves the wicked folks to stumble in the dark. Wicked people will disappear in the darkness.
We are never successful because of our strength or sheer muscle, the godfather at work, the connections we have, the family we are born to, the house we live in, the successful work that we do, but only because of our faith in the One who is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. Our God is faithful to us in His promises even when we forget to be committed or go astray. Let us give thanks to our God forever.
