Isaiah 60:1
“Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you”.
Wake-Up! The glory of the Lord is shining on you.
What gets us up in the morning? Is it the pressure of an alarm clock? Is it the desire to jump on our to-do list, or go for a morning run? Isaiah encourages us to see our days, with an eagerness for what God is doing or might do, in our life or the world. How will our days be if we seek God’s glory?
The prophet brings to our attention of ways in which God breaks into our world and illuminates our very existence. God is with us and among us, Emmanuel. Jesus Christ is alive and present in our world here and now. Let’s be encouraged to face anything that life may challenge us knowing that the covenant keeping GOD is with us.
Karen Pidcock-Lester writes:
“This is not an invitation. It is a command. The light has not come merely to rescue a chosen few from the darkness. The light has come so that others will be drawn out of the darkness into the circle of light. . . Those who are privileged to stand in the light have a responsibility not just to receive the light, but also to respond to”.
We are the light of the Lord because Christ has come and is shining on us. Therefore, we are to walk as children of light, discerning what is pleasing to the Lord. We expose the unfruitful works of darkness rather than participate in them. This is how we awake, arise, and shine because the light of Christ has arrived.
