The battle belongs to the Lord

Deuteronomy 28:7

The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.

In Deuteronomy 28:7, Moses reiterates the blessings that will come upon God’s children for obeying the commandments of the Lord. The Lord assures that the adversaries who oppose His children will face defeat. The comprehensiveness of their defeat is illustrated through the imagery of enemies attacking from one direction and retreating in seven directions.

The key theme of today’s verse is that the Lord is a mighty protector who cares for His children. We have the assurance of His divine protection; God will intervene on our behalf and lead us to victory.

We might undergo persecution for being faithful to God’s Word, especially when we don’t participate in some activity or conversation because it does not honor the Lord. We might have people talking ill about us or pulling us down. At those times, we remember Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that He is our God.” We have nothing to fear or lose sleep over. What the enemy meant for evil, God will turn for good. He will not give our enemy a chance to win against us.

However, it is also important that we remain obedient to God and His Word. We do not walk by worldly standards, so what others are doing around us should not be our concern. Let us keep our eyes fixed on the cross and remain faithful. God will fight our battles and give us victory.
